Traffic Impact: METRO's Purple Line in Westwood area and LADWP's work in Sunset/Carolwood vicinity

Summary

This monthly notification is an outline of construction activities for the month of October 2019. Additional notices detailing these activities will be sent by email through the Purple Line Extension, Section 3 database.

Westwood Advanced Utility Relocation

Metro contractors are continuing excavation work to relocate underground water, power and telecommunications equipment in Westwood. AUR is expected to be completed in 2020. 

While AUR is being performed, some traffic lanes will be temporarily reduced or access might be restricted. Please note posted signs and cones near construction zones, which will provide motorists and pedestrians safe, alternate routes for travel through the area.

 Weeknight work hours: Monday through Friday, 9pm to 6am

Weekend work hours: Friday through Monday, 9pm to 6am

For the month of October:

  • Intermittent lane reductions on Wilshire Blvd. between Malcolm Ave. and South Sepulveda Blvd.

  • Intermittent lane reductions on Westwood Blvd. between Lindbrook Dr. and Ashton Ave.

  • Intermittent lane reductions on Gayley Ave. between Kinross Ave. and Ashton Ave.

  • Intermittent turn restrictions at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Glendon Ave.

  • Intermittent turn restrictions at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Westwood Blvd.

  • Intermittent turn restrictions at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Gayley Ave.

  • Intermittent turn restrictions at the intersection of Wilshire Blvd. and Veteran Ave.

  • Intermittent sidewalk closures on Wilshire Blvd. between Gayley Ave. and Glendon Blvd.

  • Access to businesses will be maintained.

Southern California Edison (SCE) Utility Relocation on Wilshire Blvd, Ohio Ave. & Federal Ave.

Metro is coordinating with Southern California Edison to upgrade the electrical system along Wilshire Blvd., Ohio Ave., and Federal Ave. to provide the power necessary for construction and tunneling activities. This upgrade will also provide power for the operations of the future Westwood/VA Hospital Station.

  • Intermittent lane reductions on Wilshire Blvd., Ohio Ave., and Federal Ave.

  • Temporary parking restrictions in the work area.

  • Detailed construction notices will be posted when exact days and work hours are confirmed.

What to Expect

  • All work has received necessary permits and approvals.

  • Access to driveways, homes & businesses will be maintained at all times unless notified in advance.

  • Access for pedestrians will be maintained outside of construction zones.

  • Access for the Fire Department and emergency responders will be maintained.

  • Temporary lane closures will be required; detours with signage will be implemented.

  • Parking restrictions will be implemented in the immediate area of the work zone.

  • Temporary bus stops with relocation signage will be implemented.
