BLANCO

ID# A2020739

10 years old, 42 lbs, neutered male

Blanco is an adorable, mellow senior dog who’s been waiting for his new home since March. He’s an absolutegem, and the shelter staff and volunteers can't understand why this beautiful boy has been overlooked for so long!

A gentle, medium-sized fella, Blanco has the best smile. He loves making new friends, and is a big fan of bootie scratches and belly rubs. He’s calm and quiet in his kennel, even when strangers stop in front to say hello. He knows his “sit” cue and waits patiently for treats. He enjoys leisurely walks and has wonderful leash manners. In fact, he’s so easygoing that he’s often chosen for new volunteers’ dog-handling classes!

Blanco has typical age-related medical issues — dental plaque, gingivitis, and a stiff gait. His adopter will need to take him to their own vet for examination upon adoption. It's heartbreaking to see any animal at the shelter, but especially seniors. After six months of kennel living, we think this special guy has waited long enough! Come meet Blanco, and give him the loving forever home he deserves for his golden years!

HENRY

ID# A2030230

16 years old, 15 lbs, neutered male Lhasa Apso

It’s hard to believe Henry is sixteen years old, because this fluffy cuddle-bug often wiggles and jumps around like a puppy. And once he knows you, his happy place is either on your lap or near your side for belly rubs. Despite being a senior, Henry still loves to go on walks, and his pace is a joyful trot. He'll even sit for treats, and always takes them gently.

The shelter staff and volunteers first met Henry in May, after his owner died and he had no place else to go but the chaotic shelter. Despite being confused and disoriented, both staff and volunteers found Henry to be loving and lovable!

The Lhasa Apso was initially bred as a watchdog or companion dog, so they can be reserved or protective of their primary human when strangers are around, yet very loving with people they trust. And while they’re playful, they can also be willful and dominant, so they really need a mutually respectful relationship with an owner who will consistently enforce the rules. For this reason, Henry might do best in a home with a solo adult or a couple.

Henry has some senior-related medical needs and must be taken to your private vet for assessment promptly after adoption. If you have the resources to provide for a little vet attention, please consider giving Henry a place in your home. Every person we know who has adopted a senior dog finds the love and loyalty they receive from these special animals far outweighs any costs. These dogs seem to know it takes a special person to take them in, and they repay that commitment ten times over.

The shelter volunteers who’ve spent time with Henry are confident he’ll do great in a home that’s savvy about his breed and its needs, and will set him up for success. He’s such an affectionate boy and deserves to be cherished through his golden years. Are you the right human for Henry? If so, please come rescue him soon!

HUBBARD

ID# A2050025

12 years old, 11 lbs, male

Hubbard the senior cat is exceptional! Shelter staff and volunteers alike have fallen hard for him. His chubby cheeks, snowy white coat, and incredibly sweet demeanor are really something special.

Hubbard has had a rough time, as you can see. He also has some medical issues that need a look such as some dental attention, and desperately needs a loving home where he can come good. Despite the setbacks, he remains strong, active, and affectionate, and takes his medicine like a champ!

Hubbard was recently adopted but unfortunately the adopters had to return him due to his FIV+ status on their vet’s recommendation since they have other pets in the house. (Hubbard’s medical records from the adopter’s vet visit are available upon request.)

The shelter heard wonderful things about Hubbard after his stay with them, however, including how sweet he was! They say he immediately took to eating, and wanted to cuddle and rub up against furniture. He was not shy about jumping on the bed and he slept in the bed for the night. Hubbard is a sweet boy who needs a new, caring home as soon as possible. Are you Hubbard’s new special human? Come meet him soon!
