Reminder: A public forum to discuss Berggruen Institute development and its impacts on January 21 at Skirball Center
The Bel-Air residents are invited to attend a community forum regarding the proposed Berggruen Institute on Sunday January 21st from 10:00 am to noon at the Skirball -- Ahmanson Auditorium. We have come to learn that international billionaire Nicholas Berggruen has purchased 450 acres in the hills above Mandeville. The area spans eastward to Sepulveda and is contiguous with Bundy Canyon, Kenter Canyon and the Mountaingate communities. The proposed Institute claims as its mission to promote the ideals of good governance. The concern however is that it is being built on protected open space and former landfill.
Mr. Berggruen calls this his "Mini-Davos." He hopes to attract visiting dignitaries and hold conferences. Neighbors are concerned about increased fire danger, loss of wildlife, increased traffic on Sepulveda, helicopter noise and more.
Both sides will be represented. This promises to be an informative and lively discussion.
Date: Sunday January 21st 10 AM to Noon
Location: Skirball – Ahmanson Auditorium
