Emergency Preparedness Today
Dear Neighbors and Friends of the BAA:
At this challenging and dynamic time, we want to stay in touch and implement the Emergency Preparedness network we have worked to build.
At this moment, Mayor Garcetti has implemented SHELTER IN PLACE for Los Angeles. This Order requires that most people stay home starting immediately, but no later than 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2020, unless they are engaged in “essential activities” that are discussed more in the link below.
The BAA office is still staffed daily by Alex and Shawn. Please be patient and leave a message if you do not reach them directly, as for their safety, their schedules are staggered; ACS in the same building remains at work for our security. The most efficient manner to reach Alex and Shawn is through telephone and e-mail contact to avoid in person meetings at this time.
The Association continues to work diligently for our safety and benefit, and now is an important time to lend support--whether through new or renewing Membership, other financial support, or volunteering for our current Emergency Preparedness efforts. Together, we will benefit from our mutual strengths. One service we have arranged and are working to provide again this weekend is local food availability given the current market and restaurant circumstance. With the assistance of a BAA member, we are attempting to have two food trucks with a variety of offerings for BAA members to "dine". Please be mindful of the Six foot "social distancing" while you wait, should there be a line, and as per the guidelines distributed in the Friday blog, be diligent in hand sanitizing or washing. Should you have a mask and wish to wear it, it is in-fashion. Tomorrow's blog will have details.
To abide by the current CDC and other Health agency guidelines, we will modify the format of the previously scheduled March 24 meeting to accomplish it without in-person contact, and will defer any other BAA in-person events. We will shortly distribute how you can participate the evening of March 24 to review the pre existing threat to BelAir of the MTA's plan to subway tunnel under the neighborhood.
We will simultaneously contact each of our Emergency Preparedness Block Captains to remain in touch and unify our community now; through telephone, text, email, or other safe means, we hope each Captain can contact those in their zone to establish whether there is a specific need for assistance. And for those Members of the BAA who do, we will attempt to arrange for their needs to be met. As we heard when we first built this network, simply reaching out and saying hi to our neighbors has been therapeutic for both those getting called, and those calling. Let's stand together.
Similar to Mayor Garcetti, our local LAPD Captain has issued a statement, the text of which we sent you directly in this afternoon's publication.
After my note in last week's Blog, it was heart-warming to see people volunteering to assist others; at the end of the day, we remain lucky to live here, and as a community we will work through this. We appreciate those in the Association who have stepped up to lead and guide the effort, and we appreciate you as well. Thanks for helping to keep us safe and strong together.
