Livable California: Names the Good Bills and the Bad Bills out of Sacramento - next meeting January 23

Reprint from LIVABLE CALIFORNIA

Three Santa Monica City Council candidates, in a historic upset against luxury housing developers, won seats in the November election on shoestring campaign budgets.

The three have diverse backgrounds, don't answer to developers, and plan to shake up Santa Monica's years of overbuilding luxury housing, producing sky-high costs, severe traffic and crowding.

We’ll discuss with these three impressive winners:

  • overreach from Sacramento led by Bay Area legislator Scott Wiener and others

  • the two worst bills of 2021 that must be killed, SB 9 (formerly SB 1120) and SB 10 (formerly SB 902)

  • how to push back in the war against neighborhoods (you’ll love hearing how De La Torre, Parra and Brock won)

Let’s end Scott Wiener’s divisive war, through positive figures like De la Torre, Parra and Brock.

Let’s find good bills, like SB 1299 – now renamed SB 15 (Portantino). SB 1299 failed, yet it was the best bill of 2020, rewarding cities who voluntarily rezone their idled commercial space to allow housing.

See that boldface, folks? REWARD and VOLUNTARILY

De la Torre, Parra and Brock GET it. We, too, are small fry, fighting huge financial forces. Please DONATE HERE to Livable California today. We thank you for keeping us going!

See you on Jan. 23. Meanwhile, please DONATE and have a great week!

Livable California is a non-profit statewide group of community leaders, activists and local elected officials. We believe in local answers to the housing affordability crisis. Our robust fight requires trips to Sacramento & a lobbyist going toe-to-toe with power. Please donate generously to LivableCalifornia.org here.
