Tunneling beneath Bel-Air: Bel-Air Association alerts community as Metro takes public comment until February 11th

Three of METRO ‘s options for the Sepulveda Pass Transit Project involve tunneling under Bel-Air.

The Bel-Air Association’s position is that NO tunneling should take place under residential neighborhoods and that superior alternatives exist.

We continue to monitor the project and are actively discussing our opposition with METRO.

It is important that all of us pay close attention, as METRO is obfuscating its intent by never mentioning which community will be tunneled under.  This is yet another example of our local officials not listening to its communities. The BAA will hold a community meeting the 1st quarter of next year to further organize and raise funds.

METRO is accepting public comment until February 11th, 2022.  Also, two more public forums will be held for the public to hear the proposals and make comments. Information to attend these electronic forums and to submit comments are below.

Any questions, please feel free to contact us at the Association office at (310) 474-3527.

Environmental Process

Metro will prepare an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) will include project alternatives that represent a range of rail transit modes, alignments and station locations for addressing the transportation needs of the Sepulveda Corridor. Once the DEIR is completed, a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) will be recommended to the Metro Board of Directors. After the LPA is identified, the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) and the Draft and Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be prepared to complete the environmental review process. During this process, there will be multiple opportunities for the public to review and comment on the project alternatives and the environmental analysis.
