Metro approves two Private Companies to continue Pre-Development Work on Sepulveda Transit Project: Environmental Review process begins in the Fall
The Bel-Air Association wants to alert the community that on Thursday, the Metro Board of Directors approved two separate contracts with private sector teams for Pre-Development work on the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project. As a reminder, the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project is the multi-billion transportation system connecting the Valley to the Westside, and then ultimately to LAX.
The two companies involved are proposing vastly different methods with large cost and construction time implications.
The company Bechtel has proposed an $11 billion subway that would tunnel under Bel-Air, through the Santa Monica Mountains.
The engineering company LA SkyRail Express has proposed a $6 - $7.5 billion monorail concept that would use the existing median of the 405 Freeway, reducing the cost and time of construction.
Both have proposed stops at UCLA.
The Bechtel (subway) concept is of particular concern to the Bel-Air and Sherman Oaks communities as it would travel above ground through the valley. And tunnel beneath Bel-Air where there is known liquefaction, natural underground water sources, geological faults, as well as the earthen/embankment dam of the Stone Canyon Reservoir.
We will continue updating as the project moves forward, and encourage anyone interested to contact the Association to get involved.
