Ridgeline Ordinance: Good Idea. Bad Policy.

Ridgeline Ordinance: Good Idea. Bad Policy.

Recently the City released a Draft Ridgeline Protection Ordinance, aimed at preserving the City’s ridgelines. This Draft Ordinance would affect many Bel-Air homes, including those along Casiano, Bel-Air, Somera, Linda Flora and others. While the intension to preserve the City’s ridgelines is a noble effort, the ordinance as written is punitive to homeowners while accomplishing little preservation.

The Association has been working with Councilmember Koretz, the Neighborhood Council and community members to educate and convince them of the dangers of the ordinance as written. Fortunately the collective efforts of community activists, the Association and other groups have convinced Council District 05 the ordinance must be halted and rewritten.

Councilmember Koretz has announced he plans to place a hold on the effort while efforts are made to study the issues and craft an ordinance that doesn’t place the burden on current homeowners.

Until significant changes are made and robust public participation is had, Bel-Air Association will remain in opposition to its passing.

We will keep you updated as information comes along. Should you have any thoughts or questions, please feel free to contact use anytime.
