Bel-Air Association Sends Comments to Metro on Subway Tunneling

Dear Bel-Air Community:

Attached is Bel-Air Association’s letter submitted to Metro last Friday opposing a subway under the homes of our community.

Thank you everyone who submitted comments in support of this position. Tunneling under our community impacts ALL Bel-Air residents: Heavy trains rumbling under our homes every few minutes, many homes limited as to improvements they can make to their own property, decades of mass construction noise and road impediments, fire safety issues, environmental risks, and so much more!

The Bel-Air Association supports mass transit between the valley and the westside, but it must be done responsibly. A subway under residential neighborhoods is not the answer. There are alternatives which are less expensive, can be completed more quickly, and without the risks of tunneling under our fragile hillside.

The Bel Air Association has created a committee that is chaired by Fred Rosen to oppose tunneling as a solution and will do whatever is necessary to protect our community. If you have interest in joining the committee or assisting its work, please reach out to me at (310) 474-3527 or shawn@belairassociaton.org.

You can also assist us by becoming a member of the Bel-Air Association. Please CLICK HERE to join or renew your membership.

Thank you,
Shawn Bayliss
Executive Director of the Bel-Air Association
