METRO plans for EASEMENT ACQUISITIONS or use EMINENT DOMAIN

A tunnel beneath Bel-Air will require METRO to obtain permanent easement acquisitions from Bel-Air homeowners, impacting rights to build on or improve one’s property. If no agreement is reached on a price for a permanent METRO easement, homeowners will face METRO exercising eminent domain (condemnation).
Geological investigation teams are already in Bel-Air to conduct subsurface and soils analysis for subway tunnel alignment.
METRO IS A BUREAUCRATICALLY INCOMPETENT AND INEPT ORGANIZATION THAT IS FISCALLY IRRESPONSIBLE—AND IMPERVIOUS TO ANYONE’S OPINION OTHER THAN THEIR OWN—AND TOTALLY RESISTANT TO NEW TECHNOLOGY. IT’S FILLED WITH TUNNEL DIGGING ENGINEERS WHO ARE CLUELESS HOW THE WORLD IS CHANGING. FACT—EVERY METRO PROJECT IS OVER BUDGET AND BEHIND SCHEDULE. THE MONORAIL TO THE AIRPORT CAN BE BUILT IN LESS THAN 10 YEARS—GO DOWN THE 405 WITH A SPUR FOR UCLA—AND COST APPROXIMATELY $10 BILLION. TUNNELING—WHICH WILL NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL 2050 AT THE EARLIEST—WILL COST PROBABLY 2 TO 3 TIMES MORE. TUNNELING’S COST TODAY IS ABOUT $1.2B TO $1.4B A MILE AND BY THE TIME THIS PROJECT BEGINS, IT WILL BE CLOSER TO $2B A MILE. THIS SOLUTION DEFIES GOOD BUSINESS, ANY LEVEL OF LOGIC AND IS COMPLETELY DEVOID OF COMMON SENSE.
THE BEL-AIR ASSOCIATION HAS CREATED A COMMITTEE TO OPPOSE TUNNELING AS A SOLUTION AND WILL DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY—INCLUDING LITIGATION.
IF YOU HAVE INTEREST IN JOINING THE COMMITTEE OR ASSISTING ITS WORK, PLEASE REACH OUT TO SHAWN BAYLISS, (310) 474-3527.
