METRO Planning “Congestion Tax” for the I-405, the 101 and the I-10 AND Eyeing Mountain and Canyon Roads Between the Valley and “Town"
METRO is exploring a congestion pricing scheme for some of the city’s freeways and roads. Metro expects to release a full study of the potential program in the next few months. The aim of congestion pricing is to change commuter behavior with the tax — forcing them to use transit alternatives. Metro’s intent is to have the congestion pricing scheme in place in 2028 — before the Olympics.
A few high-traffic zones are being considered as part of a pilot program:
Along the 10 Freeway between downtown and Santa Monica
On arterial streets and freeways around downtown Los Angeles
Through the canyon streets and freeways that link the San Fernando Valley to West L.A. and the rest of the basin
