Senderos Canyon
Dear neighbor,
As you have likely heard, the owner of Senderos Canyon, also known as Hoag Canyon, is interested in selling their property to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy for permanent preservation. Senderos Canyon is 263 acres of undeveloped land composed of native chaparral, oak-sycamore riparian woodland, and a perennial stream located west of Linda Flora Drive and east of the I405 freeway in Bel Air. The conservancy has called it one of the most ecologically significant properties in the City of Los Angeles.
The property owner has indicated that they will assist in fundraising if an initial fraction of the purchase price can be pledged or donated as earnest money. As of now we must complete this first fundraising phase to secure a longer term agreement between the property owner and SMMC, and to access public funds.
The Senderos Canyon Committee is grateful to have received donations. Now we must focus our efforts on identifying key major donors.
Our ask is the following:
Spread the word to potential major donors you may know or consider becoming a major donor yourself.
Major donors should contact,
Joseph Edmiston
Executive Officer, Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority
edmiston@smmc.ca.gov
or
Paul Edelman
Chief of Natural Resources and Planning, Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority
edelman@smmc.ca.gov
