This Saturday, January 9 at 10 AM: Councilmember Paul Koretz guest speaks on California State Legislation Updates
Reprint from Livable California:
Soft-spoken and fierce, LA City Councilman Paul Koretz led against SB 1120 and SB 50. He joins us Saturday Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. to discuss SB 9, identical to SB 1120 but more extreme, which ends all single-family zoning. And we’ll unwind SB 10, Scott Wiener’s revival of SB 902, the “10-unit market-rate apartments allowed almost everywhere” bill.
SB 9 is a reckless repeat of SB 1120 that would kill single-family "zoning" to let speculators jam 4 to 8 costly rental homes where 1 home stands now, leaving just 4-foot setbacks with no yards or garages. Yes, on your street.
In a great discussion with Councilmember Koretz, we’ll explore the ugly core of SB 9, which is worse in this new version, trying to halt hearings under the California Environmental Quality Act. Because it just wasn’t bad enough as SB 1120!
We’ll unwind the outrageous SB 10, formerly SB 902, by Wiener, which would empower and urge the state’s 482 city councils to toss out the108-year-old voter right to the initiative — to build luxury housing on open space!
Wiener would allow city councils to override — with a simple majority vote — more than 50 voter-approved initiatives that for years have protected shorelines, canyons, urban boundaries and other cherished open spaces.
We are small fry, fighting huge financial forces. Please DONATE HERE to Livable California today. We thank you for keeping us going!
Let’s end Wiener’s divisive war. Let’s find good bills, like SB 1299 – now called SB 15 (Portantino). SB 1299 failed, yet it was the best bill in 2020, rewardingcities who voluntarily rezone idled commercial space to allow housing.
See the boldface in that last sentence? REWARD and VOLUNTARILY?!
See you on Jan. 9. Meanwhile, please DONATE and have a great first week of 2021!
