Westwood: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Operations West Bureau, Special Assault Section (SAS), are seeking the community’s help in identifying a sexual predator who burglarized an apartment and sexually battered a sleeping resident.
On August 27, 2021, at approximately 4 am, a resident in the 11000 block of Strathmore Drive was awakened by movement in her bedroom. She observed a suspect, whom she described as a white male with brown hair and short facial hair, approximately 5-feet-10 inches tall with a medium-heavy build, approximately 25-to-30 years old, standing over her. He groped her over her clothes before she jumped up and pushed him out of the apartment.
Community members and video surveillance have played a key role in stopping other sex crimes suspects in the area in recent years, so the LAPD is asking anyone with evidence or tips on the suspect’s identity to come forward as soon as possible. Detectives are coordinating their efforts with LAPD West Los Angeles area patrol resources and the University of California Los Angeles Police Department.
In addition to requesting video footage, detectives are also reminding residents to remain vigilant about locking their doors and closing their windows at night. Particularly with many new residents moving to the area in advance of the fall term at UCLA, property managers are encouraged to service their video systems and outdoor lighting to help reduce future incidents.
Detectives anticipate that there may be more victims or witnesses in the area who have not yet come forward. They are encouraged to call the Special Assault Section to report what occurred.
