Mail Theft on Stone Canyon and Dolcedo Way - Video!

On Wednesday, video captured mail thefts occurring on Dolcedo Way & Stone Canyon Road. The vehicle was a 4-door white Jaguar CA license plate 5MBV094. The Bel-Air Association reviewed the gate cameras that captured the vehicle departing the West Gate. See videos below.

Mail theft is a FELONY. Here is how to report if you are a victim:

1. File a report with the US Postal Inspectors either by clicking on this link postalinspectors.uspis.gov or by calling (877) 876-2455. It is this agency that will investigate and prosecute!

2. File a report with LAPD online and GET THE INCIDENT NUMBER!

3. Send an email with the LAPD online Incident number from the report to our LAPD Senior Lead Officer James Allen with any video evidence. Officer Allen's email address is 39318@lapd.online, office number is (310) 444-0741, cell number (213) 952-8396.

4. Contact the Bel-Air Association at (310) 474-3527 or info@belairassociation.org with your information OR if you need help filing these reports.

What else can you do?

• Clear out your mailbox daily!

• Know what USPS is delivering in your mailbox each day by registering at https://informeddelivery.usps.com/box/pages/intro/start.action.

CLARITY on reporting mailbox thefts:

If someone tampers with a blue USPS mailbox receptacle or the mail inside your mailbox, it is a felony and the US Postal Inspector is the agency who will investigate and prosecute.

If someone tampers with your mailbox unit (not the mail inside), LAPD is the department who should be contacted and who will investigate.

If someone takes the mail from inside your mailbox, that is a felony.  Contact the US Postal Inspector to file a report. LAPD online reporting will give you an incident number that needs to be sent to our LAPD Senior Lead Office. LAPD will work with the US Postal Inspectors  but it is the US Postal Inspector who will investigate and prosecute.

The apprehension of mail thieves is difficult since many criminal rings rent cars with stolen credit cards or change out the license plates.
